Shortly after Terra-Xehanort is defeated by the Lingering Will, and loses some of his memories, he ends up in Radiant Garden, and begins to question his existence upon meeting Aqua - by strangling Aqua. By the time he is found by Braig, Dilan, and Ansem, he has lost all of his memories entirely—except for the name "Xehanort", however, Braig insinuates that the amnesia is a mere ruse. As one of Ansem the Wise's apprentices, Terra-Xehanort appears to have had a very professional and no-nonsense attitude, shown by his determination in his studies.
He appeared to be easily annoyed by Braig and was shown to be equally as interested in the darkness of hearts as his original incarnation. Terra-Xehanort appeared frustrated when Ansem forbade him from continuing his studies and experiments, and ultimately disobeyed his master. His former master later refers to Terra-Xehanort as "foolish" and that any world of his "would be an empire of ignorance" while conversing with Xemnas, and makes further chastising comments while conversing with Ansem.
Perhaps influenced by Terra's youth, Terra-Xehanort can be brash and direct with plans; instead of following Xehanort's plan to have the Organization and Guardians clash, he attempted to remove their hearts.
However, a surprise attack from Lingering Will and future Sora seemed to put him back in his place. As a fusion of Terra and Xehanort, Terra-Xehanort is able to use many of both Keyblade wielders' abilities, and combines Xehanort's magical prowess with Terra's youthful agility and raw physical strength while also being backed up by the former's wit.
Terra-Xehanort uses Xehanort's Keyblade to perform techniques like Ars Solum , a fast combo comprised of multiple hits. He can use Meteor and Quake as well, and he is one of the few bosses that is able to heal with Curaga. Terra-Xehanort also can call upon his " guardian ", a Pureblood Heartless -like symbiote that floats behind him and serves as both his main source of offense and defense.
The powerful guardian attacks Terra-Xehanort's enemies with physical blows and dark energy projectiles, and can also take possession of them. Terra-Xehanort's Heartless, Ansem, inherits the ability to summon this guardian.
Terra-Xehanort wields the Keyblade No Name. The weapon has a spiky shaft, as well as a gleaming eye of darkness near its teeth, which give the Keyblade a battle ax-like appearance. No Name is black and silver in coloration; it is able to unlock hearts and appears in its wielder's hand in a flash of dark energy. Another eye of darkness appears on the Keyblade's keychain; Terra-Xehanort uses this Keyblade to perform long, powerful combos, as well as several desperation attacks.
When Terra-Xehanort loses his memories, he also loses his ability to wield No Name. A year later, however, he regains the weapon and uses it to unlock Braig's heart. Even after becoming a Heartless, Xehanort persisted in his research of the doors and the heart of all worlds— all in the name of "Ansem", of course.

I knew it would be a heavy blow to lose a subject as unique as she. The Ansem I first knew wouldn't do that. I'm sorry I didn't tell you. Those who lack hearts I will call them the Heartless. It wiggled its antennae and, as if sensing a target, headed deep into the castle. In the deepest part of the castle, its antennae began vibrating, as if searching for something.
Suddenly, a strange door appeared. I'd never known of its existence. It had a large keyhole, but didn't seem to be locked.
So I opened the door. What I saw on the other side mystified me. What was that powerful mass of energy? That thing beyond the door must be a heart, too--the heart of this world. There is no proof, but, having felt that immense energy, I am certain. That was the heart of the world. By recreating the conditions that spawn the Heartless naturally, I should be able to produce them artificially. Well keep in mind that Namine and Roxas didn't form until the hearts they came from left the vessil they stayed in, that being Sora.
Namine didn't exist because Kairi's body as a Princess couldn't leave the Realm of Light and she couldn't turn into a Heartless, so it left for Sora's body.
Once Sora gave up both his and Kairi's hearts Roxas was made, but so was Namine. They were both "born" from Sora because his body could work like any other normal denizen of the Realm of Light. With that in mind, it serves the theory that unless the person is an exception to the rule like a Princess of Heart, their Nobody and Heartless wouldn't form unless they did it the "proper" way, loosing his heart to Darkness or simply having it released and fade away into Darkness, turning into a Heartless, while his body turns into his Nobody.
However, because he transferred his heart to another vessil, and his body isn't an exception like Kairi's, it probably just simply vanished. It isn't until Terra-nort lost his heart s? So Xehanort only got a legit Heartless and Nobody by use of Terra's body, not from anything else.
It's actually a really cool theory if this turns out true. But either option I listed is probable. Xemnas' heart inside Terra would need to be I imagine. Maybe a fight in the heartstation I guess? Riku should do this fight! Yeah I really want Terra freed too. He's had the worst time considering his whole life was stolen away from an old pedo.
Personally I'm hoping that Terranort is the one who was revived instead of MX and that he'll be the final villain of Kh3. I'd rather fight Xehanort as a younger, faster and more powerful beast rather than Xehanort in an old body that he disposed of in BBS. It kinda ruins the primary point of that body transfer if he just reverts back to his older self. When Terra is first seen as Terranort his hair is grey and his eyes are yellow telling you that is no longer Terra its MX in Control.
There a mixture of both not one. PS: tell me if i missed something. You missed the part where in DDD it was said that the old man nort was the newest version and most future self. So no the MX we saw was not from the past. The question is why. Also LW is his thoughts but that doesn't mean it was Terra's entire mind. Back then, Xehanort wasn't part of Ansem's apprentices, so he could not invent Heartless or Nobodies yet. He did follow the plan but i've allways wondered, WHY did he visit Aqua?
I'm a little confused on what you are trying to say here but for your question on Xemnas and Aqua Xemnas might have been following MX's plans but he's still part Terra. I would not exactly call it balanced since we know they were following MX's plans but they both carry traits of both characters. You can assume that's why for now since we don't have any more answers to that as of the moment but it makes sense.
Anyways the old man nort we saw in DDD was the revived Xehanort and this was stated in game and by Nomura himself. This is not a guess lol.
If they have both returned to being their former selves I'd wager that Xehanort will try to do something to prolong his life. He desired a younger body because he wanted to see what awaited "beyond the Keyblade War" which could last for many, many years. So just using his old body would be risky since there's no guarantee that he won't die of old age before that time.
I just think that there is more to the Xemnas visiting Aqua's armor thing, i hope that's touch upon in 2. The question is why is it him. I'll bite and explain to you why they have fused hearts. Remember when Kairi's heart was in Sora Sora never had problem staying in control of his body either Clearly their hearts weren't actually fused.
Now Terranort's hair changed, his personality changed, and didn't his voice even change? Xehanort even expresses multiple times that Terra's heart belongs to him now.
