It 's absurd to think or label someone or something as perfect because it 's just not realistic and you can 't achieve perfection either. In order to become "perfect" we can 't make mistakes which all know is impossible simply because of the fact that we are human beings. Through all the conflicts of The Scarlet Letter, Hester is put through many hardships which she must learn to overcome, but when the Puritan Community threatens to take away her child she is put in an unrighteous position.
Hester definitely deserves to be able to keep her daughter Pearl because they are each a lesson for each other, she keeps Hester from going insane, and taking her away, in a way, would be saying God made a mistake. As the novel progresses, Hester and Pearl use each other to help one another get through unfortunate conflicts which results in a mutually beneficial lesson. Having Pearl around Hester serves as a bittersweet reminder of the scarlet letter brazen on her bosom, always reminiscing her of her false step in the past of committing.
Hester is a bad mother, but she should be able to keep Pearl. Hester should be able to keep Pearl because Pearl is the only thing Hester has in life, Pearl is a blessing and a retribution, and Pearl saved Hester. Therefore, Pearl should not be taken away from her mother.

Although some may say that Hester, because she is not very caring, should not be able to keep Pearl, they are mistaken. The minister argues that Pearl will keep Hester from the powers of darkness. And so she is allowed to keep her daughter. Those powers of darkness can be seen in both the strange conversation with Mistress Hibbins and also in the change in Chillingworth.
As if to prove that Hester will be kept from the darkness by Pearl, Hawthorne adds the scene with Mistress Hibbins. While Mr. Wilson says of Pearl, "that little baggage has witchcraft in her," Hester says she would willingly have gone with the Black Man except for Pearl. These dark powers are also suggested by the fourth main character, Chillingworth. The change noted by Hester in Chillingworth's physical appearance, now more ugly and dark and misshapen, is a hint that in the scholar's desire for revenge, evil is winning the battle within him and is reflected in his outward appearance.
That Chillingworth is Dimmesdale's personal physician :and supposed friend gives him the opportunity to apply psychological pressure on the minister. Chillingworth's comment on Dimmesdale's strange earnestness and his statement that he could make a "shrewd guess at the father" suggest that he may already have decided on Dimmesdale's guilt.
