In our timeline, a few days before the election, England were knocked out of the Cup by West Germany whom, four years before, England had defeated to win the Cup ; it's commonly believed that things would have been different had England goalkeeper Gordon Banks not been forced to drop out due to a stomach illness. Days later, Harold Wilson's Labour government — increasingly unpopular to begin with — was defeated by Edward Heath's Conservatives.
In the Alternate History, Banks plays, England wins and Wilson rides the surge of resulting patriotic pride back into office albeit with a significantly reduced majority. Heath's kicked out, and he's replaced as leader by Enoch Powell him of the infamous ethnos-baiting " rivers of blood " speech. Things go downhill quickly. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so.

I suspect the best model is 'Gordon Banks', which had Labour getting home with a working majority for a full term of about ie, probably Heath's majority. It'll last till and then they will be out. Heath didn't manage this period well which I admit I am quite poor at and I can't see Wilson doing any better. The Unions are going to test the government and then some and the Labour party just isn't equipped to deal with their 'own' people and trying to reign in some of the demands the Unions will make in this period.
Just like Gordon Banks, the real interest is how things in the Conservative party pan out. Heath is gone, the only real things to be considered is how. I foresee three possible outcomes: 1. Gordon Banks 2. Heath is deposed and Powell takes over. However, perhaps shades of 'Agent Lavender' Powell is there and I think this reasonable and whilst Powell's regime is far from fluffy, civil liberties and democracy make it through the rest of the 's pretty much intact.
Probably win again in but likely lose the election to pretty much anyone from Labour except maybe Foot. Powell retires, either Whitelaw, Howe or even Heseltine take over. Perhaps not. Main 'advantage' is almost certainly no Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, leaving the 'first woman PM' title to another day Beckett in the 's if she is very lucky? Heath is deposed but someone more moderate takes over. Who did Gordon Banks have run against Powell?
